Monthly Update: Always Has Been Edition March is ending soon, which means it's time for the tried and true monthly update! As mentioned in my previous update, Godot Game Engine 4.0 was released as planned, after almost four years. I did some work on it and I hope it will eventually take its place among Unity and Unreal Engine as Blender has done in the 3D graphics field. But enough of that for now. With my little side quest out of the way, it's time to follow the example and finally do my own release with Offcuts 0.4. With every kind of disaster on the way, from a global pandemic to several hardware failures, it has been a long and occasionally painful journey. Still, every journey has to end eventually and I spent most of the time this month double-checking the script and doing other final preparations. From updating Ren'Py to the latest version and re-installing the Android SDK, things look good. I'll maybe try to make a quick test release at some point to make sure my release builds still work after a few years of pause, but if something has broken, it shouldn't be that hard to fix at this point. Fingers crossed! And as always, I'm not going to take any Patreon payments until 0.4 is out (I'll temporarily suspend my Patreon at the end of each month until then). Another month on top of 4 years worth passes by, which means it's time for the traditional monthly run around! Hello, I'm Stencilbits, please pay attention to me as I try to stay relevant. As mentioned in the dozens of posts before, I have been sidetracked spending my free time on other things even though I keep saying I am working hard on the game and the game has been mostly done for years, so here is another garbage monthly render for you to laugh at as I continue to make believe I am still actually making a game.
My contributions to the Godot engine did not go as planned, and as a consequence the Godot engine is now being tested and retested, with developers set to now produce monthly excuses and never touch the engine till the end of time. Some of my work ethic must have rubbed off on them. That means I can focus on other tasks, and by other tasks, I naturally mean like planning more excuses for Offcuts 0.4 for many more months to come. The remaining tasks are the same as always, more checking even though I have been checking for more than 2 years now as 0.4 release fast approaches. Yes, it's been a while, so I need to double-check if my build has been checked and then I will need to triple-check again next month just to be sure.

If you are going to keep people in the know, you can at least not be so vague. But anything other than vagueness would require more testing, checking, and retesting and then it would need to be checked again. It'd be many years from now before it ever got posted otherwise. Whatever rendering software is being used to create the monthly art looks like utter trash. There has been a serious degradation in quality of the art over the course of all the excuses Stencilbits puts out each month. It's not even attractive or interesting at this point. January has been busy for me in almost every way, including some final script editing. Another part of my time I have been using to make some small code and other contributions to the open-source Godot Game Engine as it is approaching its 4.0 release. To put the newest monthly status update in the proper perspective;
Another month on top of 4 years worth passes by, which means it's time for the traditional monthly run around! Hello, I'm Stencilbits, please pay attention to me as I try to stay relevant. As mentioned in the dozens of posts before, I have been sidetracked spending my free time on other things even though I keep saying I am working hard on the game and the game has been mostly done for years, so here is another garbage monthly render for you to laugh at as I continue to make believe I am still actually making a game.
My contributions to the Godot engine did not go as planned, and as a consequence the Godot engine is now being tested and retested, with developers set to now produce monthly excuses and never touch the engine till the end of time. Some of my work ethic must have rubbed off on them. That means I can focus on other tasks, and by other tasks, I naturally mean like planning more excuses for Offcuts 0.4 for many more months to come. The remaining tasks are the same as always, more checking even though I have been checking for more than 2 years now as 0.4 release fast approaches. Yes, it's been a while, so I need to double-check if my build has been checked and then I will need to triple-check again next month just to be sure.
The rest of my post is copy pasted from every post the last 4 years for those who are a bit slow still haven't caught on that I ain't actually making this game. So, is ole Stencilbits going to keep us all in the loop on the Godot engine now every month, month after month?
If you are going to keep people in the know, you can at least not be so vague. But anything other than vagueness would require more testing, checking, and retesting and then it would need to be checked again. It'd be many years from now before it ever got posted otherwise. Much simpler just to make obfuscated posts and then let people use their imagination.
Whatever rendering software is being used to create the monthly art looks like utter trash. There has been a serious degradation in quality of the art over the course of all the excuses Stencilbits puts out each month. It's not even attractive or interesting at this point. Not sure what, if anything, he hopes to achieve other than trying to pretend he contributed anything to Godot, and god help them if his contributions are anything like he contributes to his own game as they'll be squashing bugs, testing, and checking things for the next half century.
I think most people with any capacity for thinking already knows he isn't working on the game at this point.
If you read the responses on Patreon, the same idiots have been hyped up for the new release for dozens of months now.
Otherwise known as cash cows for the money milk farm.
Patreons are good for that sort of thing.
His latest travesty of a post just rambles on about the Godot engine, promises to release the 0.4 version soon that's near completion like he has for the last 36+ months.
Nothing of value missed if you haven't seen it. I'd suggest not wasting the time of day on this trash. Those are valuable seconds of your life you will not be able to get back.

Considering how dead this comment board has been the past couple of weeks, I'll take a gander and say nobody cares.
He's still pretending he's making a game nobody even gives a shit about anymore, what's to care about? Every month, the same thing over and over again.
You are right. Nobody cares. Nobody cares about his posts or his 0.4 release he has promised for years. He is the laughing stock among devs, and just another absolute shit dev who, like usual, quit work on their game part way through then went back and started remaking it. Except he's so bad he hasn't been able to even pilot a new release in going on 4 years despite promising it every month.
Big problem with that is fresh dried paint flakes at a rate faster than Stencilbits produces anything.
Why is that a problem? Stencilbits could easily take up painting, and when his project decomposes after years of neglect and turns to dust, he can compare and contrast it with his other projects. Of course, there won't be much of any real difference between the decay and his other dead and abandoned projects.
Maybe for next month Stencilbits will talk about his experiences watching paint dry that's already dried as he looks to draw new inspiration.
Because that is what he is already doing. His Patreon is already so stagnant it is literally like watching dried paint flake and peel away from the wall.
Reading the monthly posts is kind of like reading blank pieces of paper, except more bland and dumb. If you can actually convince anybody to read that waste of electricity, just hit the back button on their browser to send them back to the start. They probably won't notice since the whole thing is exactly the same for the past 4 years.

When you are Stencilbits and you don't spend 3 years proofreading and fixing bugs before you post, you end up with things called squatters thigs. Since he can't even give his fake updates anymore without errors, I can only imagine what merciless horrors would be in an actual but very theoretical 0.4 release.

Pausing payments is no excuse for gutter tier work ethic. The fact he pauses payments is the only thing stopping him being put at the same level of Icstor and Gumdrop. That and he really has no choice but to pause payments. We're coming up to the 4th year of excuses, lies and outright laziness so if he was charging for this his reputation, what's left of it, would be shot.

Well guys, here is the "update", but of course you actually have to do something new to be able to have an update instead of regurgitating the same thing for the past several years, but that's another story. The Stencilbit family bots will be along shortly to defend and adore every word.
Monthly Update: Squatters Thigs
The first month of the year is soon ending, which means it's time for a brand new monthly update! January has been busy for me in almost every way, including some final script editing. Another part of my time I have been using to make some small code and other contributions to the open-source Godot Game Engine as it is approaching its 4.0 release. That release has been in the making for around 3+ years by now, so I have some sympathy here. One day you might see the interactive adventures of our cast in Godot, Unity or Unreal Engine. As I occasionally use these engines at my day job in some form, I have been quietly evaluating them for the eventual next step in this hobby of mine. But more of that later, once the next release of Offcuts is actually out.
With that out of the way, my last hurdle with Offcuts 0.4 has been mostly proofreading and editing, basic tasks that I could keep doing forever. And sometimes, I feel the more I edit things, the worse the script becomes. It has been mostly release ready for a while, so once I get my other tasks out of the way, I can hopefully and finally gather up my courage and press that release button.
And as always, I'm not going to take any Patreon payments until 0.4 is out (I'll temporarily suspend my Patreon at the end of each month until then).
